Flag Day 2023 | Display of the National Flag 2023

Every year, on May 28th, Flag Day is celebrated in the Philippines . This special day is dedicated to honoring the country’s national symbol, the Philippine flag, which represents the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and identity.

The roots of Flag Day trace back to the Battle at Alapan, Imus, Cavite in 1898, where Philippine Revolutionary Army emerged victorious against the Spanish forces. In recognition of this historic event, Presidential Proclamation No. 374 was issued on March 6, 1965, designating May 28th as National Flag Day. Then later, on May 23, 1994, Executive Order No. 79 extended the celebration period from May 28th to June 12th.

During this commemorative period, all Filipinos are encouraged to display Philippine flags in government offices, business establishments, schools, private homes, and other relevant locations. By doing so, they demonstrate respect and reverence for their national sovereignty and solidarity. The Philippine flag embodies the country’s ideals, culture, and tradition, serving as a unifying symbol for its diverse population.

Flag Day is celebrated with a variety of activities and events organized nationwide to promote patriotism, national pride, and respect for our Philippine flag. A prominent event is the National Flag Raising held at the historic Rizal Park in Manila where esteemed government officials, military and police personnel, and members of the public attend this ceremony. It includes the raising of the flag and the laying of wreaths at the Rizal Monument. This monument serves as a poignant reminder of the nation’s struggle for independence.

Furthermore, schools, communities, and public places across the country host various programs and initiatives during Flag Day. These endeavors aim to enhance understanding of the Philippine flag’s history and symbolism while encouraging creativity and artistic expression through its presentations.

Flag Day 2023 serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our ancestors to achieve freedom and sovereignty. Moreover, it reinforces the enduring spirit of patriotism and national pride that has been a defining characteristic of the nation’s history.

On this Flag Day, let us Filipinos stand united in our appreciation for the Philippine flag and strive towards a stronger, more prosperous Philippines.
